Community

USM is proudly committed to supporting and improving the community around us. That’s why we maintain a strong relationship with nonprofits and businesses that also support the community. Currently, we support over 20 charities by raising funds, awareness, as well as attending in community walks, charitable galas and events at local, national, and international levels. USM participates in clothing and non-perishable food drives to assist families in need around the world!  We also sponsor the Metals4Munchkins program, USM’s very own charity organization that donates a portion of our recycling proceeds to a number of children’s charities.

For over 25 years, USM has had a long-standing commitment to JDRF, a nonprofit organization that funds vital type 1 diabetes research in the search for a cure for the disease. During this time hundreds of USM employees, customers and families have participated in the JDRF One Walk in Chicago, and also attending the annual galas held at McCormick Place.

The Foundation Obreros de la Misericordia (FOM) is a charity that USM began partnering with in 2017 to implement housing projects and educational opportunities for poor farming communities with low resources in Columbia. FOM’s projects are Sheltering the Less Fortunate, and Sponsoring Underprivileged Youth to obtain higher education.

USM and USMe have had the honor and privilege to partner with Recycling Avenues for the past few years. Recycling Avenues was launched in 2007 by two physically challenged young adults, Greg Campone and PJ Flaherty, who wanted to work and make a difference in an organization which helps to provide job opportunities for the physically challenged. USM and USMe’s certifications ensure that the material received are recycled responsibly using best practices.

It’s our way of giving back to the community we care deeply about.
